The opportunity
ZWAP has proven that a cycling community for people with Parkinson's can thrive. We've done it in Norway and the UK. Now we want to bring it to more countries — and we need people like you to make it happen. This is not about building a perfect organization from day one. It's about creating local energy, trust, activity, and continuity.
What success looks like
A good start can be as simple as: 5–15 interested people, a WhatsApp group, some regular Zwift participation, one local meeting or ride, and one or two local champions besides yourself. That's enough to start building.
What you would do
-
Be the local contact person
You don't need all the answers. You reply, help, and connect people onward. You're the friendly face of ZWAP in your area.
-
Find and welcome members
Look for people with Parkinson's who may benefit from cycling, family members, supporters, health professionals who believe in exercise, and cycling enthusiasts who want to support the cause.
-
Lower the barriers
Many people hesitate because they think they're not fit enough, don't know Zwift, or feel intimidated. Your job is to make the first step easier.
-
Build a local channel
Start simple: a WhatsApp group, a Facebook group, or an email list. Don't overbuild too early.
-
Organize light activities
Informal meetups, watch-together sessions of ZWAP events, short local rides, coffee meetings, or 'how to get started on Zwift' sessions.
-
Create local visibility
Help collect local member stories, photos, short updates, and ideas for awareness events. People join communities because they see real people.
-
Connect with local organizations
Reach out to Parkinson's associations, clinics, physiotherapists, exercise groups, cycling clubs, and other relevant communities. Look for win-win relationships.
-
Stay connected with ZWAP
Share updates on progress, opportunities, issues, and ideas. Ask for help early when needed. This should be a partnership, not a one-way expectation.
Who this role fits
You don't need to be perfect. This role fits someone who is:
- Positive and welcoming
- Dependable and proactive
- Reasonably organized
- Comfortable talking to new people
- Aligned with ZWAP's values
- Willing to build gradually
This is less about formal titles and more about energy, judgment, and follow-through. Consistency matters more than scale.
What you are NOT expected to do
- Build a formal legal entity immediately
- Raise major funding
- Run medical programs or take medical responsibility
- Solve every technical Zwift issue
- Work full-time
This should be sustainable. Burnout helps nobody.
Your first 90 days
Days 1–30: Get started
Meet with the ZWAP team. Learn the core story. Identify 10–20 local contacts. Create one communication channel. Have first conversations. Join ZWAP rides.
Days 31–60: Create momentum
Gather a small core group. Arrange one simple meetup. Encourage people to join a ZWAP ride. Start sharing updates with ZWAP central. Make first outreach to one or two organizations.
Days 61–90: Build continuity
Create a rhythm for communication. Identify one or two more local helpers. Discuss regular meetups or rides. Collect one or two local stories. Suggest a simple plan for the next 6 months.
We support you
