What is Zwift?
Zwift is a virtual cycling platform that turns indoor training into a social experience. You ride on your trainer at home, but on-screen you're cycling through virtual worlds alongside other riders from across the globe. ZWAP uses Zwift to bring together people affected by Parkinson's — every single day.
What you need
A bike and smart trainer
Any road bike or mountain bike mounted on a smart trainer works. Alternatively, a smart bike (like Wahoo KICKR Bike or Tacx NEO Bike) is an all-in-one solution. The smart trainer communicates with Zwift to adjust resistance and track your power.
A screen to run Zwift
Zwift runs on iPad, iPhone, Apple TV, PC, or Mac. Most riders use a tablet or laptop placed in front of their handlebars. A larger screen makes the experience more immersive.
A smartphone
For the Zwift Companion App — this is how you find ZWAP, sign up for club events, and connect with the community. It also controls your ride experience.
Optional: heart rate monitor
Not required, but helpful for tracking effort and staying in your comfort zone.
How to get started — step by step
-
Download Zwift
Get the Zwift app on your preferred device from zwift.com. Create your account and set up your in-game profile.
-
Download Zwift Companion
Get the free Companion App on your smartphone (iOS or Android). This is your gateway to ZWAP's club events and social features.
-
Find ZWAP
Open the Companion App → go to 'Clubs' → search for 'ZWAP' → tap 'Join'. You're now a member of the ZWAP cycling club.
-
Sign up for a ride
In the Companion App, check ZWAP's upcoming Club Events. Tap any event to sign up. Events show up in your Zwift calendar automatically.
-
Show up and ride
When the event starts, just launch Zwift and join. You'll ride alongside other ZWAP members, many living with Parkinson's. Optional Zoom video chat runs alongside — join if you want to see friendly faces and chat.
When we ride
All times CET. All sessions use 'Keep Everyone Together' mode — no one is left behind.
What to expect
Your first ride might feel a bit unfamiliar. That's completely normal. ZWAP rides are social, supportive, and guided. There's no pressure to keep up — the 'Keep Everyone Together' feature means the whole group rides at the same pace. Many of our members started exactly where you are now.
